About Me

My interest in sewing began in the typical way, at my mother’s sewing machine. She taught me all the basic skills I use today. I loved the fact that I could make useful things from old clothes and Mum’s fabric scraps. But back then sewing was a dying art; it wasn’t especially cool. Twenty years later and things have really changed. Sewing has made a comeback in a big way. Handmade marketplaces such as Etsy, and TV shows like Project Runway, have sparked a newfound interest in handmade fashion and goods. People are discovering their creative side once again.

Over the years I have developed my sewing skills, primarily through trial, error, and lots of practice. I love experimenting with new patterns and fabrics; after all, I’m a scientist at heart. I have sewn my way through clothes, curtains, pillows, quilts, and tablecloths. You name it; I’ve probably sewn it. My husband, Michael, can testify that I’m a true fabric junkie and can easily spend hours a day at my sewing machine. Now a mother, I have the perfect little models for my smallest creations.

For better or worse, it is often cheaper to buy our clothes than it is to make them. However, I believe the rewards that come from sewing are priceless. To design and create something from scratch, something truly unique; it’s such an empowering thing. I believe everyone should learn to sew! Many of my friends and family find sewing intriguing. Little do they know, many projects require only the most basic sewing skills; you can learn these fairly quickly. Today, kids, teens and adults alike are seeking creative ways to get together with friends, beyond the restaurants and movie theaters. This was the starting point of my vision for Sew Creative Studio, to provide a unique, creative and social sewing haven for the community of Little Rock. I am so excited for the opportunity to share my love for sewing with you.
